Update

Haven't made any posts for a while as I have been ill for a few weeks. I have planned my filming now. I have decided to use my living room to shoot my video. I am going to shoot it in the dark with white light shining on the band and other colours at times (similar to a video I am currently analysing by Bury Tomorrow). I plan to film each member of the band playing their part with thir instrument, and plan to film each member from high angle, eye line and low angle from the left, centre and right. This will give me lots of footage to use (roughly 135 minutes). I plan to film next monday, the 21st of december and on the tuesday if needed. My band is also in the studio for 3 days on the 27th, 28th ad 29th recording so i plan to film some footage there to use.

Lighting

I have thought about lighting for my video. My dad isa dj so has lots of lights I can use. I am going to put these lights around the room and try to program different colours for different sections of the songs focusing on the band.

I have started work on a cover. I have taken an image from another band playing live and used several effects on the picture.

Update

I have decided to make a poster and cd cover for my bands E.P launch. The E.P will be called "Changing Faces" and my poster will be the launch of the E.P. This E.P cover design may well be used when we press out E.P.

Location

I thought I had found a posible location in Alex's (other guitarist in the band) photography studio. However after talking to him about this he explained his lights are only on when a picture is being taken, as they only flash for the image. Therefor this option is not useable for my film. I am currently thinking of other locations to use.

Other videos in a budget

I have been watching music videos on small budgets, mainly frends bands from around the UK, and the making of these videos in images. In the making of I saw images where the room used was basically a bunker and some lighting was used around the outside of the room. This footage was then edited to a high standard and the video looked really good. Therefore I play to shoot my video either in a practice studio/rehearsal room or an empty room in a house.

Update

I have decided to use the song Stand Proud by my band. I have decided on a basic plot for the video and have recorded some live footage using a camera at the side of the stage when playing live.

My Song

I have been thinking about what song to use for my music video. I have decided to use my own band for my video and have a shortlist of songs called Stand Proud and Our Days Are Numbered. My band is a hardcore band (mix of punk and metal) so I have decided to do my research into bandd of this genre.

Update

I have been watching a lot of music video's to get idea's and I have ben making notes on some video's. I will upload this analysis on a power point presentation, including a whole digipack (video, cover and poster). I may also include some promotional materials in this too.

My name is Matthew Winfield and I am currently studying A2 media studies at Biddulph Sixth Form. I will use this blog for my coursework. I have decided to do the music promo project; making a music video, album cover and a poster. I intend to use the genres punk, hardcore and metal for my coursework. I will use my band for my work and have already began filming footage with a camera at the side of the stage when playing live shows. I will design the cover for our E.P which we are planning to release later in 2009.
